“Chakra Healing: A Beginner’s Guide to Self-Healing Techniques that Balance the Chakras,” by Margarita Alcantara

Even though I hail from The Bronx, and was subjected to a dialectical academic education in Ivy League, and to become a professional psychologist, I have opened my eyes to the power of what are called “The Chakras.” Although often associated with The New Age, the word is derived from Sanskrit and means “wheels” and was mentioned 1,500 years go in the Vedas, ancient Hindu texts. There are seven major chakras within the body and they reference the “energy body” that extends beyond the physical body. Margarita Alcantara’s book lends a welcoming hand to the beginner just stepping out of the Western system of materiality to work the energies of the chakras towards healing and away from disease  on the somatic and spiritual realm. This small book is beautifully rendered, easy to read, multi-colored and just holding it while breathing into your body and out will bring a new experience to your aura system. The book is also a primer into the use of crystals. For beginners as well as all sorts of healing types. A must-read also for students of therapy and clinicians. We should learn about as many different healing systems as possible, especially the most ancient ones!
